From Betsy, Catherine and Emma:
Proudly based in NYC, WAYWARD manufactures all of our leather pillows, small pouches and totes right here in the Big Apple!
This week, we decided to round up some of our favorite companies who also call NYC home. Supporting local manufacturing centers like the Garment District, Red Hook and other areas of Brooklyn, these designers all have a dedication to producing their designs locally, tapping the incredible expertise that exists in this city.
From relaxed yet elegant clothes and bags, to luxurious throws and home decor -- each of these designers has a distinctly modern point of view. We’re proud to share the city with these inspirational designers who are also living and working in this incredible place!

Aki Kano New York

While working on a collection of accessories for DKNY and Simply Vera, Aki Kano launched her successful self-named NYC based handbag label in 2009. Monitoring everything from sketches to production, Aki is extremely hands-on with every aspect of her company. Aki’s line and branding feature her signature hand-drawn bees. The line is proudly produced in NYC, to ensure the highest quality and attention to detail. Her mantra of “made in NYC with love and integrity” inspires us!

Susan Connor New York

Susan Connor is another talented local designer that we admire. Susan aims for a sense of comfort when creating her pieces, which translates beautifully into materials and patterns that bring a sense of well-being into any space. The collection is sourced and manufactured locally, which Susan finds essential to her vision.
A self-taught pattern designer, Susan’s “seeker’s nature” can clearly be seen throughout her collection of textiles, throws, cushions, and wall hangings. Susan Connor NY is a go-to if you’re looking to add a relaxed and modern vibe to your surroundings.

Suzanne Rae

Suzanne Rae’s women’s ready-to-wear line is a perfect example of “Made in the USA”. Based in Brooklyn, and manufacturing their line in New York City’s Garment District, Suzanne Rae is inspired by and made for the progressive and modern woman. Their minimal aesthetic provides both style and functionality with modern elegance.
Besides a sharp aesthetic, Suzanne Rae is also a very socially aware company. By supporting Garment District manufacturing, they help to keep jobs in America and to support manufacturing infrastructure for other local designers. The company is active in social outreach, creatively partnering with organizations that serve the community in a range of ways. They are also carefully considerate of using sustainable materials and processes throughout their work. Suzanne Rae combines beauty and brains in a way that we can't help but admire!
